Books - My Gender Workbook Review

Kate Bornstein is a writer for the people. "My Gender Workbook" is appropriate for teens as well as adults. In fact, I would recommend it highly for any high school or undergraduate human sexuality or intro to gender studies course. Its accessible language is gentle enough not to scare away those threatened by the idea of questioning naturalized gender roles, but that is exactly the purpose of the book - questioning your own presumptions about gender. If, at the end, it turns out that you had your gender identity pretty much pegged down already, as was my case, then it may seem like a trite exercise to read through the entire book. Honestly, though, gender scholars are not the target audience, gender noobs are. If you are in the land of gender noobs - and, it's oft a scary, lonesome place to be, and you are looking for some guidance, working your way through Kate Bornstein's Gender Workbook might help you figure a few things out about yourself. It might even start you off on the path of changing some things about yourself or how you view the world and the concept of gender.
